Telecom company Bharti Airtel (Airtel) announced on Thursday that it has successfully performed live 5G service on the commercial network in Hyderabad city. According to the company, this shows that its network is ready for 5G. Airtel said that, however, Airtel customers will get 5G experience when enough Airtel spectrum is available and government approval will be obtained. The company said that the performance in Hyderabad shows the technical capabilities of the company.

Airtel claims that its new 5G network has the ability to deliver 10 times more speed than the current technology. Live 5G service in Hyderabad was performed in the existing Libralized spectrum in 1800 MHz band. Airtel said that using dynamic spectrum sharing, the first of its kind, Airtel has operated 5G and 4G without interruption within a spectrum block.
Airtel’s biggest rival in the telecom sector, Reliance Jio, has also recently announced that it has started 5G testing in India. The company has also said that it can bring 5G to India as soon as possible this year.
